What is a digital art print, and how is it different from a poster or screen print? Discover how digital artwork is created, printed and chosen for your wall.

A digital art print is a physical print made from a digital image file. The artwork may have been drawn directly on an iPad or computer, created by combining digital and hand-drawn elements, or developed from an original painting, drawing or collage.

Once the artwork is complete, the digital file is printed onto paper using a specialist printer. The important word here is print. When you buy a digital art print from ZeTrunk, you receive a physical piece of artwork for your wall—not a file to download and print at home.

How is digital art created?

There is no single way to make digital art. An artist might draw with a digital pencil, build an image from layers, scan hand-drawn marks or combine words, photographs, colour and illustration. The tools are digital, but the ideas, decisions and artwork still come from the artist.

At ZeTrunk, a piece may begin with a thought, a phrase, a character or an image that suddenly appears. Some ideas carry a deeper story. Others arrive without much explanation and simply demand to be made.

The artwork develops through colour, hand-drawn words, symbols and visual experiments before becoming a finished image ready to print.

Is a digital art print a physical product?

Yes—although the phrase can sometimes cause confusion. Digital print may be used online to describe either:

- A downloadable image file
- A physical artwork produced from a digital file

ZeTrunk digital art prints are physical fine-art prints. They are professionally printed in London and delivered as finished paper artwork.

The individual product page should always explain exactly what you are buying, including the size, paper, edition information and whether the artwork is supplied framed or unframed.

What is a fine-art digital print?

The quality of a digital print depends on the printer, inks, paper and preparation of the original file.

A fine-art digital print is produced with close attention to colour, detail and durability. Archival pigment printing is often described as giclée printing, although specifications can vary between printers and products.

ZeTrunk’s current digital art prints are produced at A2 size on heavyweight high quality paper. One paper type example is Hahnemühle Photo Rag Satin 310gsm paper.

The paper has a subtle satin surface that helps give the artwork rich colour, strong detail and a high-quality finish without the appearance of an ordinary glossy poster.

Is a digital art print the same as a poster?

Not necessarily.

A poster is often produced inexpensively in large quantities using lightweight paper. It may be intended as decoration, advertising or affordable reproduction.

A digital fine-art print is normally produced using higher-quality paper, inks and printing equipment. Greater attention is given to colour accuracy, detail and the way the artwork will look when displayed.

However, the printing method alone does not determine whether something is valuable or worth owning.

Before buying, check:

- The paper type and weight
- The printing method
- The dimensions
- Whether it is signed or numbered
- Whether it is an open or limited edition
- Whether it is supplied framed
- Who created the original artwork

Clear product information matters more than impressive-sounding terminology.

Are digital art prints original art?

The artwork can be original even though the physical print is one of several copies.

An artist may create an image digitally from the beginning, making the digital file the original artwork rather than a reproduction of a painting.

The physical print is then an artist-designed print produced from that original file.

Whether each print is limited edition or open edition is a separate question. A digital print does not automatically belong to a limited edition.

ZeTrunk’s current digital fine-art prints are open editions. This means the number produced is not restricted to a predetermined quantity.

What is the difference between a digital print and a screen print?

A digital print is produced directly from a digital file using a specialist printer.

A screen print is made by pressing ink through prepared mesh screens. Each colour is normally applied separately, so the image is physically built through layers of ink.

Screen printing can produce bold areas of colour, visible texture and small variations between prints. Digital printing is particularly effective for detailed imagery, subtle tonal changes and artwork containing many colours.

Neither method is automatically better. They offer different visual qualities and suit different kinds of artwork.

Why choose a digital art print?

Digital fine-art prints make it possible to reproduce detailed, colourful artwork consistently and at an accessible price compared with a one-of-a-kind original.

They can be a good choice if you want:

- Colourful contemporary wall art
- Detailed or layered imagery
- Bold typography
- An artist-designed print on quality paper
- A larger artwork without the price of an original painting
- Something more individual than mass-produced wall decoration

The right print is ultimately the one you want to keep looking at.

It might make you laugh, remind you of something, create a particular feeling or simply bring the right colour and energy into the room.

How should you frame a digital art print?

Check the full paper dimensions before ordering a frame. An A2 print measures 42 × 59.4 cm, but mounts and frames will increase the finished size on the wall.

For long-term protection, consider professional framing with archival materials and glazing that provides UV protection.

Keep the artwork away from prolonged direct sunlight, moisture and significant changes in temperature. Avoid touching the printed surface directly and handle the paper with clean, dry hands.
