Fridge Art: Make a Little Art Every Day

Nov 1, 2026

Pin up a blank sheet of paper and add one new mark at a time. The ZeTrunk Fridge Art Project is a simple way to bring colour, creativity and positive conversation into everyday life.

Fridge Art on Cupboards

A fridge can hold more than shopping lists, magnets and reminders.

Pin up a blank sheet of paper and it can also become a place to draw,  experiment and add a little creativity to an ordinary day. It can even help transform a mood. We like to think of it as art therapy.

The idea behind the ZeTrunk Fridge Art Project is simple:

One blank page. One fridge. One new mark at a time.

You do not need to consider yourself an artist. You do not need expensive materials, a studio or several uninterrupted hours.

You simply need somewhere visible to put the paper and something to draw with.

What Is Fridge Art?

Fridge art is artwork created or displayed on a fridge.

For this project, the fridge becomes a daily drawing board. Attach a blank sheet of paper and add something whenever you pass it.

It might be:

  • a face;
  • a character
  • a word or phrase
  • an unexpected colour
  • a shape
  • a scribble
  • an idea you cannot yet explain

You can work on the same drawing for several days, invite other people to contribute or replace the paper whenever you feel ready to begin again.

There is no required outcome. The point is to make creativity visible, accessible and part of everyday life that maybe helps lift a mood or allocates just a little part of the day just for you.

Why Use the Fridge?

A sketchbook can be closed and forgotten. The fridge is difficult to ignore.

It is somewhere most people pass several times a day, which makes it a useful place for a creative prompt. The paper remains visible, ready for another mark without the effort of setting up a formal workspace.

A large blank page can sometimes feel intimidating. A page that already contains yesterday’s line, colour or strange little face is easier to continue.

The fridge quietly asks: what happens next?

A Small Creative Lift

There are days when energy, motivation or mood feels lower.

Making something is not a magic solution, but a simple creative ritual can act as a signal that it is time to play, express yourself and change the pace of the moment.

At ZeTrunk, the routine can involve a paint-splattered T-shirt, tins of pens, music, chocolate and even a pair of glasses for a small identity shift.

Your version might look completely different. You might make tea, choose one particular pen or play a song that changes the atmosphere. The materials and rituals matter less than finding an easy way to begin.

The aim is not to force yourself to feel better or produce a perfect drawing.

It is to create a small moment of anticipation, colour and progress in the middle of an ordinary day.

Tap Into Your Inner Child

Children do not usually begin a drawing by wondering whether it is good enough to exhibit. They pick up a colour and use it.

Fridge art offers a way to recover some of that freedom.

Try not to plan the entire image before making the first mark. Let one colour suggest another. Turn a mistake into a character. Add words if the picture needs to speak. Draw over yesterday’s marks if you have changed your mind.

The page is allowed to evolve. You are allowed to change your mind. Nothing has been ruined.

Add Music to the Process

Music can help change the energy of a room and make the first mark feel easier.

One ZeTrunk fridge drawing came to life with She’s Electric by Oasis playing repeatedly. It was a new version of one of two older drawings that began as portraits of Ze’s late mother-in-law. The original pieces now live on the kitchen cupboards.

Returning to the image brought together memory, music and a new burst of colour.

Your soundtrack will be personal to you.

Choose something that energises you, calms you or takes you somewhere else for a few minutes. Put it on and see whether the drawing begins to move differently.

What music changes your mood?

Turn the Kitchen into a Changing Gallery

When a fridge drawing feels finished, it does not have to disappear into a drawer.

Move it onto a kitchen cupboard, wall or noticeboard and replace it with another blank page.

Over time, the kitchen can become a changing gallery containing finished drawings, experiments, memories and work made by different people in the home.

If your fridge is not magnetic, use surface-safe tape or another suitable fixing. You can also use a cupboard, noticeboard or any surface you pass regularly.

The project does not depend on owning a particular kind of fridge.

It depends on keeping creativity somewhere you can see it.

Create Positive Conversations

Fridge art lives in a shared space, so other people may notice it developing.

They might ask what it means, suggest what should happen next or add a mark of their own. A strange expression, unexpected phrase or bright patch of colour can start a conversation that would not otherwise have happened.

The drawing does not need to contain an important message.

Sometimes the conversation will simply be:

“What on earth is that?”

That counts too.

The page might become a shared visual diary, a family artwork or a collection of completely different moods layered together.

How to Start Your Own Fridge Art Project

You will need:

  • A sheet of paper
  • Magnets or Tape
  • Pens, Pencils, Crayons or Paint
  • Music, if it helps
  • A few minutes
  • No expectation of perfection
  • Attach the paper and make one mark.

Return later and add another or complete the piece in one sitting.

You can draw once a day, several times a day or whenever you remember. If you miss a day, nothing has gone wrong. This is not another task you have failed to complete.

The paper will still be there when you are ready.

Keep going until the drawing feels finished—or until you want the energy of another blank page.

Make It Yours

Everyone will approach the project differently.

Your fridge art might be calm and carefully drawn. It might be loud, impulsive and full of clashing colour. It might contain positive affirmations, peculiar faces, private jokes or things that make sense only to you.

There is no ZeTrunk way that you have to copy.

The idea is to find your own way into creativity and give it a visible place in your day.
